The Association of Creative Technologies in Academic Libraries (ACTAL) conference planning committee seeks proposals for its 2nd annual conference. The ACTAL Conference seeks to bring together people who work in creative technologies in academic libraries, broadly in the areas of media, making, and visualization, for community, conversations, and learning. We encourage participation from anyone who self-identifies as being interested in these areas.

We are planning for both in-person and virtual conference events. The in-person conference, including workshops, presentations, posters, and other scintillating conversations, will take place at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), in Richmond, VA on November 7-9, 2023. A virtual portion of the conference, consisting of roundtables and PROJECTions, will take place synchronously, online on November 1-2, 2023.

Session types:

  • Roundtable (1 hr; virtual conference): Lead a discussion on your proposed topic. Participants will register to ensure no more than 10 people per convener. We expect each roundtable to document their discussion through notes that can be shared publicly after the conference.
  • PROJECTion (2-3 minutes; virtual conference): Short, pre-recorded presentation, similar to a lightning talk, with 1-5 slides. These are an opportunity to work through ideas or gather other interested folks for more fully-formed projects.
  • Workshops (75 minutes; in-person conference): Lead a workshop on teaching or tinkering with creative technologies.
  • Presentations (30 or 50 minutes; in-person conference): Traditional presentation with slides. Interactive components encouraged.
  • Show Us Your Space Poster (in-person conference; posters available online post-conference) : How are you housing your department / unit? We would love pictures and architectural drawings to give ideas to others in the planning stage.

You are welcome to submit more than one proposal.
